The groups from CAEMD won two gold awards at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva

Date:2020-01-09

From April 10 to 14, 2019, the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva was successfully held in Geneva. Huazhong University of Science and Technology had a total of 8 projects participating in the exhibition, including 2 projects, respectively Professor Qu Ronghai “magnetic field modulation type of permanent magnetic coupler” and Professor Jiang Dong “New motor controller with zero-sequence current injection capability”, from CAEMD of SEEE, among which Professor Qu Ronghai won one gold award, and Professor Jiang Dong received one special award from the jury. In addition, Professor Qu Ronghai also received a special award from the Romanian Academy of Science and Technology.

Professor Qu Ronghai's "Magnetic Field Modulation Permanent Magnet Coupler" patent invented a new type of electromagnetic device for wind power generation system. The device aims to replace the mechanical gearbox and power inverter in traditional wind power generation system. While increasing the speed, it can also realize the function of "variable speed and constant frequency". The efficiency of the device can reach 98%, and compared with the traditional wind power transmission system, the reliability is greatly improved, and the maintenance cost is also greatly reduced.

Professor Jiang Dong's "New Motor Controller with Zero-Sequence Current Injection Capability" designed and developed a series of new motor controller topologies and corresponding modulation methods. The invention enables the motor controller to have the ability to integrate DC excitation and AC armature current, while optimizing the capacity and number of power electronic devices, reducing the cost and volume of the electric drive system, and expanding the speed regulation interval of the motor, which can be applied to aerospace / Transportation / Household appliances and other fields.

The Geneva International Invention Exhibition is one of the three major invention exhibitions in the world. It was founded in 1973 and is co-organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Swiss Federal Government. It is one of the longest and largest invention exhibitions in the world and also an important exhibition stage for global inventors and an important international platform for the transformation of high-tech "production, learning and research". The awards are divided into four levels, with special recognition for gold, gold, silver and bronze. Among them, with special recognition for gold award is selected from the gold awards. It requires the unanimous approval of all members of the jury, and no one vote against it, so it is also called the gold award in the gold awards.

At this exhibition, there are nearly a thousand inventions brought by enterprises and individuals from about 40 countries and regions. More than ten domestic universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Fudan University, Northeastern University, Southeast University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and our university participated in the exhibition.
