Academic Forum of High-end Motor

From April 18th to April 19th, 2018, Professor Philip T. Krein was invited by the IAS Wuhan Section to make a speech. Professor Philip T. Krein, executive director of Union College, Bana champagne campus of University of Illinois Zhejiang University, visited our school and exchanged of views on internationalization of school with the Huazhong University of Science and Technology foreign affairs department and the leaders of the Electrical Institute. Professor Philip T. Krein visited the innovation motor technology Research Center laboratory.

On the afternoon of April 18th, at the 204 conference room of West Nine, Professor Ronghai Qu, Professor Dong Jiang, Professor Han Peng, Professor Zilan Xiong, Professor Kuanjun Fan and so on, carried out exchanges with the theme of "taking the model of Union College Zhejiang University as an example, explore the issue of internationalized school ". The two sides exchanged and discussed the history of the Zhejiang University -UIUC Union College, the purpose, plan, student's study, scientific research, training program, and the recruitment of teachers. After that, Professor Krein visited the laboratory of the innovative motor technology research center under the guidance of Professor Dong Jiang.

On the afternoon of April 19th, at the 224 conference room of West Nine, the theme of Professor Krein's first lecture was "Next generation PV control and the coming obsolescence of maximum power tracking". Before the lecture began, teachers and students congratulated professor Krein on becoming an adviser to Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and then professor Krein introduced the problems of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT), and why it was not a correct control strategy. And he also analyzed the next generation of control technology and light from the aspects of economy and variability. Finally, an example based on the whole year database is analyzed.

After a short break, Professor Krein gave the second lecture "High-Performance Electric Transportation: A Systems Context". Firstly , Professor Krein introduced the ultra-high performance of modern multi-electric traffic, summarized the flexibility provided by the performance electric drive in several traffic systems, and illustrated some of the changes that are happening across the platform. These changes can produce systematic benefits, such as NASA's aircraft gasification long-term project, some manufacturers' traffic. Systems and hybrid electric equipment and so on. Finally, the integration of traffic electrification and power grid is introduced, which shows that the electrified traffic system will become an important partner of the future power system.


Introduction of Professor Philip T. Krein:

Professor Philip T. Krein is one of academician of the American Academy of engineering, the International Association of electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE Fellow), the academician of the national inventor College of the United States and a foreign expert on the national Millennium Program of the central group. Professor Krein received his Ph. D. in electrical engineering from the Bana Champaign branch of University of Illinois. From 1978 to 2015, he was teaching at the Bana champagne campus of University of Illinois. At present, he is the honorary president and honorary retired professor of electrical and computer engineering of the school of electrical and computer engineering, Grainger motor and motor science. He also serves as the executive director of the Union College in the University of Illinois, University of Illinois, the Union College of the Zhejiang University. From 2003 to 2014, he served as the founder and director of Solar Bridge Technology, a R & D company of long life solar integrated inverter. His research focuses on power electronics, motor ontology and drive, traffic electrification and renewable energy, and mainly focus on nonlinear control and distributed systems. Elements of Power Electronics has been published, and has published more than 80 IEEE journal articles. It has 41 US patents and 6 European patents. As a result of its contribution to power electronics, Professor Krein won the highest honor of the IEEE power electronics branch, William E. Newell Award, and was the president of the IEEE Power Electronics Society. From 2015 to 2016, he served as chairman of the IEEE Institute of transport electrification. At present, he is the deputy chief editor of the Journal IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and IEEE Journal of Emerging and Select Topics, chairman of the board of directors of the longevity integrated solar system corporation.
